Have you defined what your writing goal is? If you want to be a professional writer (get paid to write) then it's a good idea to think of it as a business. Having a goal is important.

On we go with another mid-week guest post! Today's guest is author Matthew J Mimnaugh who will be discusingg Pre-Writing.
As writers, we live with our stories for a long time, from the moment we get the spark, through the daydreaming, brainstorm, planning and writing stages. But it does mean we sometimes forget our readers don't know everything unless we show them.
Today, I thought I would share my thoughts with you on what writer's shouldn't do. As always, these are just my opinions so feel free to ignore/disregard if you feel the need. This is not a massively comprehensive list, there are many things writers shouldn't do. Like, don't tackle a policeman to the ground just to see what it's like to be arrested. That should be considered a no-no. So let's get to it, Ari's Things Writers Shouldn't Do...
I have been asked what the "best time of day" to write is. Now I did find this question strange because, like many things, this is writer specific.
There does seem to be the popular concept that all writers are night owls who fervently write during the wee hours.
Well, I can say that we don't all write at night. So don't think you have to stay up late to be a writer.
So, I spent most of this week planning a murder. It's one of the quirks of being a writer, we get to do fun stuff like that!
One of my current manuscripts... (yes, my brain hates me and has refused to let me just work on a single manuscript) ...wasn't working as well as I wanted it.
Thankfully, I had an epiphany and came up with a nice big partial plot change. However, due to this, I need to murder someone.
Hope you all enjoyed my little mid-week post I am bad at being an adult, just a little insight into yours truly 🙂 Anyway, onto today's article! I recently made a decision to cut some things out of my life that had been choking my time. My life had been full of things I thought I ended to accomplish that, in hindsight, had just been stealing valuable time from me. What's worse, it had stolen valuable writing time
Most of the time writing is an awesome, incredible joy. We get to build worlds, create characters and immerse ourselves in their lives.
But all writers have off days. It's not unusual and we can sometimes feel like it's becoming a chore rather than a joy.
While we may not be Batman, writing is one of the few professions where you can have a secret identity....well....a false name at least. You will want to give a lot of thought as to whether you wish to use a pen name or not...
Today has not been a good day for me. So, in order to get through this "crash", I am feeling I've decided to talk about mental exhaustion. Mental exhaustion can lead to writer's block but there are many things that can cause writer's block so I wanted to focus on mental exhaustion separately.
