The Writer Blog Prompt Project

So I am contemplating doing something stupid. Stupid in the sense that it will give me more to do, but when has that stopped me!

Something Missing

I was tidying up some old posts recently and I got caught up reading them. Something struck me really hard – I miss blogging!

I used to post 4 times a week. Now, I am surprised if I can manage twice a month (podcast episodes don’t count!)

Blogging has turned into a chore and I don’t feel like I am enjoying the process like I used to. Also, I’ve found myself just writing nothing for weeks at a time.

What I missed, was the more journal-style entries I used to do. Reading those old blog posts, set off this “stupid idea” I’m considering doing.

What To Blog About

Now, I’ve seen writers state they would love to blog or podcast or make videos, but they don’t know what to write about. A common complaint, especially when you feel like everything’s already been said.

Of course, you could say that about stories too – how many retellings of Beauty & The Beast do we need!? Honestly? As many as are still out there to write. 😀

We say it to writers about stories all the time – only YOU can write the story your way. This is NOT carte blanche to start ripping people off. But we are all inspired by what we read and watch, we are all working with the same, what, twelve plot ideas?

Same can be said for blogging. We all experience the same things differently. We see through our own lens, our own experience, insight, upbringing etc.

Which brings us to the Writer Blog Prompt Project.

The Writer Blog Prompt Project

Prompt Projects are NOT new. Years ago I followed several blogs that ran prompt projects in specific niches like DIY and organising.

I’ve been thinking about running a Prompt Project for a while – just as something different to do.

Also, since I’ve been running the Advent Calendar Story Train for a few years, and I’m always awed how 24 different writers can be given a one word prompt and come up with different stories. We all see the same word, but it reflects differently for us.

Since I was able to run that, why not do this?

This project is to help me focus on blogging, and gives me a deadline and accountability. (Yes, even if no one joins me – I will still do this, in case half way through, someone goes, “I’m gonna try this”)

So, What Is IT?

Simple, for the next 26 weeks, I will share a one-word(ish) writerly topic and writers/bloggers can use the prompt to write about it (if they want).

In case it wasn’t clear, I will also be writing a blog post on that topic each week. :p

Unlike the Advent Train, this will not be a prompt to write a fiction story, but to write about – well, whatever you want.

Maybe a journal entry, maybe a fear you have, maybe how you are approaching said topic in your writer journey.

Let me know if I’ve lost you yet, even I think I’m explaining this terribly!

To make my life easier (or maybe harder), I’ll be running through the alphabet (now you understand the 26 weeks, eh!) and picking a topic beginning with each letter.

When Does It Start?

Next Friday, that’s the 30th January 2026.

At the end of my Friday article next week, I will supply the following week’s prompt for anyone who wants to join in.

Do all 26, hop in and out as the muse takes you, completely ignore this project because you have better things to do (all of these are valid). 😉

Why Am I Doing This?

Ari, aren’t you like super busy? Oh, yeah!

Is this just another procrastination method? Very possible!

The truth is, I always work better with a full plate of things to do – it’s almost like I NEED the busy-ness and deadlines to kick start my adrenaline.

Also, things are getting a little same-y and sometimes I need to shake things up. So, this is me, shaking things up.

~ ~ ~

So, that’s my stupid idea – anyone want to join this project and write 26 articles in the next 26 weeks? If you do decide to join me, drop a comment below so we can all make sure to read your articles and cheer you on.

  1. Thanks, Darlene. Will be good to have you in the project whenever you choose to snag a prompt.

I realised just as this went live that I hadn’t picked my first topic! lol I’ve now decided (and updated this post) that next Friday’s prompt word is “Achievement”
