The Write Life June Update

June wasn’t the most productive month for writing due to my taking a mini hiatus following a family visit. But the urge to keep writing was bubbling away (always a good sign).

One big issue has been the weather, we British are not designed for the hot weather we’ve been having and trying to stay focused and write while sweltering (in houses that don’t have AC and are built to keep the heat in) is torturous. But let’s do some updating anyway!

The Blessed Trilogy

Due to the aforementioned family visit, I didn’t get much writing work done. I don’t do well with change and having people visit is a lot of change for me. Usually consists of feeling anxious for a week beforehand, then the week of the visit things are busy, and then because I’m also a massive introvert, I need a week or two to “decompress.”

This meant I lost quite a lot of the month. However, my main work for June for The Blessed was to tidy more scenes and I did that. I also worked on creating a timeline for my villain to make sure they were not lost in the shuffle of scenes.

A brand new scene even crashed into me while I was at a chamber orchestra event and I had to desperately hold onto it until the interval when I could scribble it all down.

I really want to ramp up my writing in July. If I can get back my normal sleep and wake cycle, I want to get through another round of edits, go over feedback from my alpha reader and give several chapters to my first beta reader.

What I will be working on through July

  • Another round of edits
  • Feedback from Alpha
  • Giving beta reader chapters

The Trinity Hart Series

Dark Hart: Book 1 of the Trinity Hart Series

Dark Hart has reared its head during my hiatus in June. I have stepped away long enough to come back with fresh eyes.

I want to re-draft my outline regarding the middle scenes that are a little too “bridging” and not dynamic enough.  I also want to timeline several of my characters to ensure I’m clear on where they are during each moment of the book.

Then do another edit and get it to my alpha for his second pass.

What I will be working on through July:

  • Character timelines
  • Updating the World Book
  • Fixing outline for middle scenes
  • A fast edit

A Coming Storm

I want to hit pause on Storm for a little longer. I need to focus on the above two manuscripts while Storm can churn in the back of my head like a soup on low heat.

What I will be working on through July:

  • Nothing, this is staying in limbo for another month

If you are on my newsletter, you might be aware that I am currently writing a novella that will be a companion book for The Locksmith, my fantasy short story featured in the anthology From Ashes To Magic.

This is from Rylan’s perspective but starts well before we meet Cara. If you haven’t yet read The Locksmith, you can join my monthly newsletter and you will receive it for FREE as a PDF.

New Projects

I did get hit with two new ideas recently and they have been bubbling away at the back of my head. Throughout June I did work on some of the outline for these ideas. I have no plans to start writing them though. I’m trying to rein myself in regarding starting any “new” projects.

But I am playing with outlines, because once these have full outlines I can pop them aware and when I come back to them, they will be ready for me to write.

While I didn’t get as much written as I wanted, I have not given myself a hard time (like usual). I expected things to slow down and they did. I have high hopes for July though.
