Very interesting points here. I think religion in a book is OK as long as it is not preachy. Historic fiction will often have religion in it as it was an important part of a certain period in time.

But in regards to the original, that mentioned religion – I totally agree, I’ve read many a books that mentioned religions and the ones I’ve loved were ones that stayed away from being too preachy.
Good point about the historical fiction!
