I have read a number of articles that talk about speeding up your story. They talk about how a writer can "bog down" the plot by going too slowly. How the plot should barrel along like some runaway train, dragging the reader with it. So today's post is about pacing.
So, today I am going to be discussing the Anti-Hero! Why? Well firstly, I haven't covered it before and secondly, one of my own stories has one so I thought it might be a good time to bring it up.
Today's post is going to be on writing the beginning of your story. Now, I will admit that I am not a fan of writing the first chapter. Even with a solid outline I never start on Chapter One...
I decided to write this after reading a few too many novels and online stories where it seemed there is a (worringly) blurred idea of consent when it came to sex. Several things can drive readers away from your book, and badly developed characters are definitely close to the top of that list. It's not always done intentionally but it's something that can ruin a good story. So, take the time to learn how not to write a Mary Sue-type character.
