Hello 2025, It’s Time For Change

A brand new page has opened before us as the New Year greeted us. Crisp and fresh and we… bring with us all the baggage from the last. It’s inevitable.

But how we handle that baggage and how we approach the coming year makes all the difference. If I had to choose a word for this new year, it would be ‘Change’.

Home

We did actually manage to get a plan for the garden and get it started last year. Hopefully, we can continue to work on it this year (weather permitting).

The main thing this year (no, I’m not holding out hope on getting the kitchen done) is to Catify the house for our two terrors. This will hopefully stop them from trying to eat the lamps, hang from the wall-mounted TV (seriously) or pull down the large mirrors.

Personal

I’ve decided, it’s time to let go of some connections. For the last twenty years, I have attempted to keep in contact with some friends. However, these have continued to feel extremely one-sided and I’m no longer interested in being the one to always reach out first, and plan Zoom calls and meet-ups.

Everyone is busy. Life is one giant whirlwind that throws things at you constantly. But if in years, you still can’t find time to, for example, send a happy birthday text, a Christmas card or reach out for a quick check-in without someone always doing it first… Then that’s more than busy.

Sometimes we cling to things because of how they used to be. But sometimes you can be pouring into a bucket that never fills. After a while, the soul just gets tired. So I’m letting them go and using my time more wisely.

Health & Wellbeing

I am still planning to go to the gym at least twice a week (preferably 3 times) and I want to get back to walking every day. We hit an almost 100-day streak last year before I got the flu that put me on my butt. I’d love to try to better that. 🙂

One big issue I have is my phone. I have gone back to being on it too much! So that needs to change.

The Pod

The only goal I want to set for the Podcast is to reach 20,000 downloads. That’s a lot but honestly, we have been doing so well recently – might as well aim high.

The Writing Desk

As of writing this, I have decided to submit The Blessed to the Page Turner Awards. It’s mostly about trying something new and allowing someone else to read my work. Sinc eI have a crippling fear of anyone reading it.

Also, I’ve decided to make this year a heavy writing year. It does mean other things will fall away, but I need to sacrifice some stuff to get back into my writing groove.

I am currently working on The Blessed book 2 and Storm. But I want 3 x manuscripts done by the end of the year (1st drafts). My third, I’m hoping will be book 1 of my Malory Warren series. I already have the small tasks planned out for actually completing these, so fingers crossed.

Dark Hart is going to one of my beta readers in January, as is. I’m not happy with it but I need a fresh pair of eyes. Even my partner has been immersed in that world for many years – I need someone who knows nothing about it to look over it.

I also want to run the Advent Calendar Story Train again. I’m actually going to be more prepared *laughs in delusions* by having a Google Form for participants that will allow them to sign up, and hopefully include ALL the information in one location for them. There will even be a nice spreadsheet for me to keep track of everything.

No idea why I didn’t do this earlier!

I want to make sure I’m posting one (non-podcast) post on this blog every month. I just can’t commit to more than that. I may do more, but I can’t add it as a goal.

In order to stay on track, I’m going to plan them so I know what I want to write and for which month.

Also, I want to look through the blog and clear up old posts as well as work on some new Pages even if they aren’t going to be launched yet.

If no other surprises appear regarding regulations etc, I am hoping to do a little more with the business this year.

What I did do, was go back to last year’s “Hello” post and add in whether I completed what I had planned and I actually completed a lot! 🙂

I will also continue to create Kanban boards for my goals, as that has been super helpful throughout the last year.

What are your plans for 2025? Let me know in the comments.

Ari I love reading about all your plans. You inspire me to want to do more! I left my job last year because it was affecting my mental health. Now I’m writing full-time but find I’m swamped with balancing housework and finding time to write. But I know I need to set boundaries to do housework before I get down to writing.

    1. Hi Sumi, thanks for your kind words. I am so pleased to hear you feel inspired to do more. Sorry to hear your mental health suffered recently, but am happy to hear you took yourself away from your job that was negatively affecting it.

I understand, it can be hard to find the balance. Even now I still don’t always manage to find a balance between running my Etsy shop, writing, errands and chores, exercise and the plethora of other tasks that constantly creep up.

Sometimes you just need to work with what you have. If you can’t write daily, then don’t. If you are able to write longer at the weekends, make them your working days.

My best advice is to think about Time and Energy. Figure out how long things take. What daily chores you need to do and how long (on average they take you – then add wiggle room for those days when you aren’t 100%)

Then figure out your energy levels throughout the day. Some people’s energy peaks in the morning, others after lunch etc.

You then need to consider how much energy you need for the tasks. For example, how much energy do you need to complete your household tasks? A lot? Then schedule them in when your energy is high. How much energy do you need for writing? etc

      — I like to get my chores done first thing in the morning so they are out the way and it’s when I have my first energy peak.

So it’s sort the cats, household chores and errands, walk, play with the cats, work, lunch, play with cats again, exercise, long stretch of work, any other small chores tasks, play with cats, collapse! lol

If I wrote first thing, I’d never get my housework chores done. Whereas I know a lot of authors get up and do their writing first. Energy level can play such a big part.

Good luck with all your writing! 🙂

  3. A fabulous list. You do a lot in one year. I agree about backing away from those who are not as keen to keep in touch. I’ve had to do this as well. I know some of us are better at keeping in touch. But really, why always me? Change is one of my words too as is Alignment, Purpose, and Breakthrough. I can never narrow it down to one. All the best!

    1. Thanks, Darlene. I like having a lot of my plate, it stops me sitting watching TV too often. I never expect to get it all done, but it’s a nice list of things to pick from 😀

Yes, exactly. That is what I feel like with friends who never reach out first “why is it always me?”

After too many replies received to the birthday cards I send, of “oh, I think I missed your birthday again, sorry”… like, yeah – 8 years and counting. If they really cared, they’d put it in a diary or on their phone calendar.

I’m not going to cut people off, but just remove myself from reaching out first. It just leaves me disappointed.

Breakthrough is a great word! I love that one.

      Good luck for this year

  4. You are awesome in all that you plan to do in 2025 Ari – I am glad to see walking continues to be a priority on your daily agenda. I wish I had half your energy/ambition. I hope 2025 is a year to “get ‘er done” as the expression goes.

    1. Thanks, Linda. Oh yes, walking is the one thing that keeps my mood from dropping. We only usually manage a 30- 55 min walk a day, but its through a nice area were we are always seeing birds like wrens, blackbirds, song thrushes and we even saw a tiny goldcrest and a pair of tree creepers! 😀

I never thought I walked much but I’ve come to realise that many more people don’t do any walking at all.

I am sure 2025 is going to be a good year for us both 🙂 Wishing you all the best in this coming year. x

      1. Ari, I understand no matter how many minutes or miles you walk per day, it is not only good for you physically, but also mentally. You see a lot in your daily jaunts, plus hearing those songbirds is an even bigger plus … soothing for the soul. Right now we had some snow, then freezing rain and it is brutally cold outside (right now -15C) and it will be like that another 10 days, so my walks are tabled for now. I’d dress in lots of layers but the ice holds me back.

Same to you Ari … let’s make the most of this year, shall we?

      2. Here’s hoping that ice shifts soon and you can restart your walks. So far, our icy days haven’t been too bad and by the time we’ve got out, most of it has thawed or the ground is rough enough that it’s not slippery.

        Yes! we shall 🙂

  5. Best of luck with all your goals, Ari.

Writing wise, my main one will be to make some headway on the last book in my fantasy trilogy. Now with two out, I imagine everyone’s going to want to know when the end will be ready.
