My alpha readers are close family members. They just let me know if the ideas work. For more in depth and used feedback, I use betas who are writers too.
Thanks for your comment, Kate. I can appreciate that, my Alpha reader is my partner. He loves the genre and has an excellent grasp of grammar etc (better than me) so can give me great pointers about areas that are weak or where the plot stumbles.
But I wouldnt let most of my family read it, because they don’t care for the genre or reading fiction in general.
Betas are a god-send!!
Yay that your partner can be so helpful when it comes to your writing work. Yes, betas are the best 😊.
Unless a member of your family is also a writer, I wouldn’t let them read my work before it’s finished…
Yes! Exactly, unless they have that experience they could bring to your writing, I don’t see the point of family or friends reading your work – especially if they aren’t interested in that genre.
