Hello 2022, Don’t Get In My Way

Well, we are back with another year.  The pandemic is still stalking through the world, the news is still mostly depressing as hell and we are all squinting with suspicion at this new year, wondering what treasures or horrors await us.

But you know what?  Damn this year!  Damn it, I say!  I have a plan and by gosh I’m going to implement it no matter what!

House

Since having our gas and electrics done at the end of 2020, much of our house looks terrible.  They had to carve into the walls and floors to do these big jobs.  In the rooms we’ve not decorated, it means there are swathes of old wallpaper torn away to reveal plastered areas where the cables and pipes went.

With many of the bigger jobs done (woodworm treatment, gas conversion, full rewire etc) we are desperate to get our house looking more like a home.

So we have saved up now and are planning to redecorate the living room, finish the woodwork upstairs in the landing, get the hall and landing painted.  We will be doing almost all of this ourselves but needed to get money together for all the supplies.

We may have to get our gutters fixed as they are starting to leak (not good!)

Our horrid “wet room” bathroom that was put in by the original owners is just terrible!  No ventilation and when you take a shower everything (and I mean everything) in that room gets soaked because they did the floor wrong.  So we need to get quotes for have this refurbed.

Stuff

Tired of all the random stuff we have accumulated over our 17 years together, my partner and I are doing a big clear out of our possessions and trying to reduce down the items that just seem to clog our lives.  So we are doing a large house purge and will hopefully get rid of several boxes worth of stuff to charity.

Me

My partner and I are going to do the Couch to 5K challenge again, our goal being by the end of the year running 10k consistently.  We will be starting in January to give us the best chance of keeping it going.  I actually miss running (how odd!)

Bucket List

With everything that’s been going on recently, my partner and I had given little thought to our Bucket List.  Well, since 2022 is going to be a year of ticking things off, we decided that we will be planning some activities/events that have been lurking on our bucket lists for too long!  Our idea is to do something once a month so we complete 12 things things year!

Last year, The Merry Writer Podcast not only hit one of its goals (reach 2000 downloads) but exceeded it! We also had lots of guests on the podcast and even picked up a few Patrons who have helped keep it running!  The support and love we’ve been shown for our little podcast has been wonderful.

This year’s goals for the Podcast is to hit 5000 downloads on Podbean, gain more exposure on Youtube and have more guests on the show than last year!

Authoring

I want to go back to treating my Author Life like a business, giving it deadlines, schedules and systems.  Over the last two years, I had fallen into old bad habits and as such, I’ve done less writing.  I don’t want to get to the end of my life frustrated that all these damn stories never got told!

So I am planning on using the first three months of the year to write to a tighter schedule.  The hope being that I complete the first draft of The Blessed.  If that works, then April will be a break month and then from May to July I’ll be aiming to complete the first draft of The Blessed book 2.

Again, if all goes well, then I’ll be working on the outline for book 3.  I also have a short story idea in the wings that I may choose to work on if I manage the above.

I am mostly happy with how my blog is going.  I’m finally satisfied with the overall look of the blog, the current upload schedule and content etc.  However, I do want to fix up some of my most popular older posts and I am considering reopening the Guest Post opportunities.

If I do, there’ll be a post about it and I’ll mention it on social media.

Secret Project

My partner and I plan to be working on a secret art project together throughout the year.  We have no solid plans for what will happen with it at this time, but it will be fun working on something in a collaborative sense.

Last year was pretty damn good for the business, but due to its craziness in the early part and then the end part of the year, I want to get more control.

So I will be working on streamlining the processes, clearing out and organising all inventory and setting up a schedule for social media/pinterest and new listings.

I will also attempt to get my Taxes done by August at the latest!

  1. Talk about “taking the bull by the horns” (a good thing, per our recent chats) … you are on a good track and I wish you luck with the renovation and its aftermath and all your projects. The secret art project sounds fun as do the Bucket List and Couch to 5K. I didn’t do any big resolutions except to read more and step away from the computer more (but that is easier said than done). Good luck getting everything done – you wore me out reading them Ari!!

    1. Thanks Linda 🙂 I have to say, we are 10 days into January and we’ve already had some positive things happen which has really started us off on the right foot with this year.

I think stepping away from the computer is always a good goal. Our Bucket List goals will hopefully draw us away from the computer more. I especially want to stay away from social media more and connect properly with people online – rather than that shouting into the void that happens on social media.

      1. That’s good news Ari. Social media is cringeworthy sometimes. One Twitter post sends people into a rage and the back-and-forth comments on any social media is worth backing away from.

  2. Go, Ari, go! I hope that all of your goals are “wins” in 2022!
I’m hoping to finish this novella that has been annoying me, and to finally get an author newsletter running. Other than that… We’ve got some interesting changes coming in our household (read “interesting” as “big and intimidating”) so I’m keeping the goals short term for now 🙂

    1. Aww, thank you Anne. Sounds like you have a lot to keep you going 🙂 I am sure you’ll hit your goals and hopefully that interesting change, wont be too intimidating 🙂

  3. Victoria Zigler

I love your attitude, and that’s a great list of goals… Good luck with them!

Personally I’m taking a different approach, and – other than my 52 book reading goal – my plan for 2022 is to just take it as it comes, and enjoy as much time doing the things I love during this year as I can. I don’t need or want the pressure of a list of goals this year.

    1. Thanks so much, Tori 🙂

Wow, 52 books!? I could barely manage 12 last year, though I do want to do better this year. Good luck on that goal! (and thanks for inadvertantly reminding me that I need to set my reading goal on Goodreads).

I think that’s a great way to do it, just go with the flow!

      1. That is very true! I am being very brutal with myself though with not buying any new books (bar one I have planned) this year and working through my TBR.

I just reorganised my main bookcase and realised just how many of the books I still haven’t read. So that is my main plan – make a dent in the TBR pile 😀

    1. I am sure you will manage to get the sequel completed! I’m looking forward to reading what happens after Mystical Greenwood.

      Good luck!
