Just a reminder: There will be no Friday blog posts for the next few months while I’m on my sabbatical.
So I am now back on The Merry Writer Podcast and today Rachel and I tackle the question:
“Should authors stick to one genre or write multiple genres?”

Thanks for listening!
I certainly feel that authors should try different genres in order to challenge themselves, and avoid, as you say, stifling creativity. That would be like typecasting.
Thanks Andrew, definitely. Challenging ourselves is important if we want to grow as writers.
You’re welcome.
I’ve started 7 novels and each is as different from the last. Please note I said ‘started’, Ari. The one I’m working on is the longest so far: 35,000 words but I became stuck. Then I took notice of Raymond Chandler and introduced someone with a gun…well, that helped.
The day i finish a novel (if ever), then I’d probably follow that with one in the same genre.
Great podcast.
Take care.
Thanks Christopher, I am glad you enjoyed the podcast. I know the feeling, I have several novels started but not completed. I even gave up on one that was at 220,000 words. I may eventually go back and fix it and split it into two novels since that is a LARGE book otherwise.
