Ep 001 | The Merry Writer Podcast

We officially have a podcast!  Our very first episode is now available to listen to so I thought I would drop a copy of it here.

The question of the day was “Are you a secret writer or loud and proud?”

Episode 001

This is a very new venture for us and very different from what we are used to.  So please forgive us any awkwardness and any editing issues can be laid at my door, as I edited this episode and I am still getting the hang of doing that. 🙂

Thanks for all your support!

Happy writing

  1. Great podcast, made me think about the fact I am fine sharing online and doing vlogs, but I hate face to face stuff. Always feel self conscious, if you don’t know the person or can’t see their reaction then bad feedback doesn’t hurt as much. Spose it is easier for me as a hobbyist writer as if I don’t ‘make it’ it does not affect income (in fact I’m not actively trying to make it so expect the lack of reviews etc.).

If you want any guests or help with future podcasts I am always happy, although I’m no expert!

    1. Thanks so much for listening, Chris. So glad you enjoyed it.

I know what you mean, I don’t feel comfortable doing face to face online. I think that’s why the podcast appealed to me so much, over say videos.

Actually, that’s a good point about bad feedback not hurting as much if you don’t see the person.

Thanks for the offer, Chris. We are looking to have guests one once a month, so we will add you to our growing list.

  2. I listened to the whole thing yesterday and I was really impressed. I guess I’m more of a secret writer. I tried telling my older brother – and he reacted like a typical brother “Oh, that’s nice” and that was it. The only real support I get is from my wife and I’m fine with that.

Now I’m going to give you some pointers to make the next podcast even better. I took a three-year course at Humber College on radio broadcasting so I know what I’m talking about.

When you’re doing intros slow down and relax. Before you record write down exactly what you plan to say and stay on that script. Rehearse it till it feel comfortable. Yesterday I barely understood your name, and you said Rachels name so fast I had to play it back because I thought you said “Richard”. I know the mic can be very intimidating if not terrifying. Try to get used to its presence and, if you can, ignore it. Script the intros * only * then have fun with the show. During the outro make sure the music is *always* instrumental and lower in volume than your normal speaking voice. Create a tag line so you know when the show’s over “Well that’s it for this week. I’m Ari and I’m Rachel, see you next week” so you can use it with every podcast. That way you only have to create the body (the part after the intro and before the outro of the show). Great first attempt though. Congrats.

    1. Awww thank you so much for listening! Glad you enjoyed it. We are still cutting our teeth so it’s pretty rough.

Glad to know I’m not the only one terrified of IRL fans! I love the idea of book signings but I doubt I’d cope with sitting before fans facd to face lol

      1. I think I’d be able to sign books for people I didn’t know. I’d probably have to go to a book store that wasn’t local – which kind of defeats the point though, haha!
