August Goals 2018 | Monthly Goals

My World Builder series will be back next Friday.  But in the meantime, we are in a new month so it’s time for some new monthly goals!

I use goals to keep me focused on the big picture and get me closer to where I want to be via smaller, easier-to-manage steps.

To say July was a failure is an understatement.  I am not really sure how I let the month get away from me, but it did.  Far away!  I managed almost none of my goals so most will be rolling over into this month.

01 Write 20,000 words of my current WIP, The Blessed

I’m sitting on an 18k outline and have done NOTHING with it.  Since I failed to write 10k last month, I am going to be stricter and make this goal double.

02 Complete Main character profiles for The Blessed

In order to give myself a fighting chance at these goals, I am changing this to the main characters in my manuscript.

03 Complete relevant location settings for The Blessed

As with the above, I am going to focus on the main locations featured in book one.

04 Update at least 10 earlier blog posts

This was one of those goals I actually managed!  However, there are still so many to go, as I’ve had to go back through to fix small issues such as the URL slug and the categories.

05 Update the Tutorial List links

I want to get all the sections within my Tutorial List updated and organised so that they are all active, working links

06 Reading Challenge 50 (1 books)

I don’t know why I’m struggling with this one so badly, but I am.  So I am reducing my number to one a month.  Maybe then I’ll actually manage it!.

07 Do (at least) 10 online courses

Another fail.  I normally manage more than 10, but once again July was a fail and I only managed 7.  I need to get this back up to 10, pronto!

08 Launch Newsletter

This is the goal that I was most annoyed at failing.  I have been planning the damn thing for ages and had a setback with the PO Box address.

I am so close, I actually have the layout all set up, I just need to finish a few things.  So by hook or by crook, this newsletter will launch in August!

Are you a goal setter?  Do you manage to reach those goals?  Leave a comment below!

Due to last month’s embarrassing fail on almost all my goals, I have removed a few and kept August at a more “manageable” level.

Happy writing

  1. I have a running list of goals, split into different categories. Writing, business 1 & 2, personal and an ongoing diy list that never seems to move. I set daily intentions, with 3 of them being the most important. That way, if I only achieve those 3, I still feel as though I’m winning. This lessens the pressure and helps me stay motivated.

    1. That is such a good method. I have made changes to how I am working now. It’s so tough juggling blogging, a business, writing, family stuff and everything else that life has thrown my way.

I am trying to be focused so each day is given mostly to a specific aspect. So far (2 days in) it’s working really well! lol

      1. I’m glad you’ve found a flow.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of work we need to do.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, because you’re doing amazing. 😘

Wow! I admire you! I usually focus on one or two things, sometimes just concentrating on one for a week or two. But I find there are other things somehow creep in and need attention…

    1. Thanks for reading, Trish. Oh I know what you mean. I always give myself more goals than I can achieve because at least that way if something comes up which affects/delays a goal, I can just focus on another.

I like to be able to complete around 3/4 of my goals.

  3. What courses do you take? I’ve just discovered Creative Live through NaNoWriMo. I’d like to try Skill Share sometime as well.
Also, can’t wait for the newsletter. 🙂

    1. I take all sorts of courses, I love tech, social media courses and design courses. I just like learning 😊

I am happy to give you my shareable link code to skillshare which will give you 2 months free premium access.

I really want to get this newsletter sorted. I think once it launches it will be fine, I’m just obsessing over every little detail lol

      1. Oh, that’d be awesome! Thanks. Skillshare looks great but I just can’t spend the money right now. I love learning too. I want to get better at everything. 🙂

I know what you mean. I need to get mine back in order again too. I was doing well with it and then I stopped. Then I re-branded. Then I stopped. Sigh…

    1. Thanks Bette, I like to give myself stretching goals that force me to be better with my time.

Last month was an anomaly for me which so many fails but to be fair I was running around for the family as my niece was born so the run up to her birth in July was very hectic for everyone as we helped to get my sister in law settled in her new house

    1. Lol I like to push myself with goals and because I work from home it’s easier to plan my days a d incorporate my goals. Though last month got away from me which is unusual.

I love the idea of a 5 year plan. How are you in track with It?

    1. I have just started with audio books, my brother got me some free credits for audible. I am ok with non fiction reference books but struggle with nobles as the voices are wrong for me and it ruins the experience but no have enjoyed the non fiction books.

Am currently listening to Getting Things done 😊
