July Goals 2018

We’re into July so it’s time to create some more monthly goals.  They help to keep me accountable and focused on what I need to get done. 🙂  Don’t worry, Monday Marketing will be back next week.

In June I originally had 13 goals, that somehow ending up becoming 15, which was a little crazy.  Add to that several days of 30-50-degree C heat and I was not able to get as much done as I had planned.  I managed 10 out of 15.

01 Write 10,000 words of my current WIP, The Blessed

Last month I put the word count into a detailed outline and boy was it detailed!  It topped off at over 18k words.  So now, it’s time to put that outline to work and start hammering through the WIP.

02 Complete all character profiles for The Blessed

I have a number of them partially written and some completed but I want to revisit them all and get a tighter grip on all the details.

03 Complete location settings for The Blessed

I have been building this world on and off, but I want to sort out more detail for the locations, at least for the settings featured in book one.

04 Update at least 10 earlier blog posts

I have (mostly) updated my posts, so now I’m working through my guest posts.

05 Create a Book Review policy

I have been thinking about doing book reviews on this blog.  So, the first thing I want is to create a clear review policy.

06 Update the Tutorial List links

I made the decision to break my Tutorial List down into sections.  I now need to go through all the links and fix them (this is because I’ve been changing the URL slug of my posts).  I started this but it’s still ongoing.

07 Reading Challenge 50 (2 books)

I failed miserably at my reading challenge last month so I am reducing my minimum to 2 just while I get myself organised.  You can see my progress on my Reading Challenge page where I list what I’ve been reading.

08 Do (at least) 10 online courses

Last month was the first time I failed to do 10 courses.  So I am going to make sure I complete this in July.

09 Launch Newsletter

If you follow me on my Facebook Author Page you will know I have FINALLY got a PO Box address set up, which means I can now launch a newsletter!

There is still some additional work to do before I am ready but I am REALLY hoping to get it launched this month.

10 Design a detailed Marketing Plan

I have a lot of notes for my Marketing Plan but I want to get them solidified and create a workable timeline.  Yes I know I’m not even close to needing it, but I like to be organised well before it’s needed. 😀

Share one or two of your own goals in the comments below

I’m keeping to a more manageable number of goals this month because a number of them are going to be a little intensive.

I’ve removed some of the common ones such as clearing documents, updating my Master List, adding a month of content to my Content Calendar.

I am hoping to make 2018 a cracking year for completing goals! 😀

Happy writing

Ari

  1. I hope you do fabulously on achieving all of your goals, Ari! 😃

I suppose, if I have to be honest about it, my total lack of goals at this point is part of why things aren’t getting done. 😶

I had some goals back at the end of last year and early this year. But a huge error on my part set everything back by 2-3 months, then other issues have arisen (mostly everything on my end of the work AND somewhat on other people’s end of the work) that have slowed things down even more. So . . . all of the goals became useless months ago and haven’t been reset because it’s proven nearly impossible to tell when anything might get finished.

I feel like I’m in a bog and sinking deeper with every attempt to move forward.

That said, I AM still moving forward – but I’ve seen snails and sloths move faster. 🐌🐌🐌

    • Hi Pearl, I hope so too. Though it’s 9 days into July and I have yet to write a single word on my WIP. :/

Oh i so sorry to hear all that. It must have been very frustrating and demotivating when things hit a wall and everything got set back.

Hey, it doesn’t matter how fast you’re doing, as long as you’re always moving forward 😀 I hope it all gets better for you.

      • Hugs and thanks, Ari! 😊💖

It has been very demotivating. I’ve even mentioned that to people that it’s been difficult to stay motivated or excited about the rebranding process because things just start to look like they are gaining some momentum and – whoosh – they slow back down to a crawl. 🐌

I just got the first looking over for needed corrections run through done on the first formatted ebook version of book #2 done on Tuesday. Will have have another run-through on that before it’s considered finished. I have the PDF of the first book (used to produce the print version) to go over now, and then will start on the my first run through on the ebook version for book #3.

Still a long way from finished products ready to put before the public.

Back at the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018, all of this was supposed to be done by the middle of April and the rebranded books all launched on the first day of June.

Ah well. “The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men often go awry.” 😉

      • I am sorry to hear this Pearl, it can be very demotivating especially when it seems like the finish line is so far away.

It must be frustrating. Do you have a new time-frame for when they are all done?

I am here if you need to talk any time. 🙂
