June Goals 2018 | Monthly Goals

It’s a new month, so time to set some new goals.  Last month, I managed to complete almost al despite melting in the weather, so I’m hoping for the same success this month.

This should have gone live on Friday but since I was being featured by the Awesome AJ over at The Writer’s Chest, I decided to move this post to Monday.  🙂

Looking back over May, I completed 7 out of 9 goals which is pretty damn good.  I had reduced my goal list as some were bigger goals than normal and also because things had gotten crazy.  So, I’m upping my goals to 13 this month because I do love a challenge!

01 Write 11,950 words of my current WIP, The Blessed

Well, I just managed over 8K words in May (and almost all of them were in the last two days of the month).  So I’ve added the missing words to this month’s word count.  Gonna be better!  This WIP is keeping me up at night, damn things need to get out of my head.

02 Add another 40 scenes to my Master List

For those who don’t know I have random scenes written for my Dark Hart series that I have been writing for YEARS.  In a shocking desire to be organised, I am listing them all on a spreadsheet.  This allows me to delete duplicate files, organise plot lines and work out just how many words I’ve written with all these scenes.

03 Clear through another 300 documents

This mammoth job will probably kill me but I am definitely getting there.  Seriously, get organised soon – you never want to have to go back over decades of electronic files and retro-actively clear through, delete or file them.

04 Update at least 15 earlier blog posts

I am bumping this up to 15 as I am almost now onto updating my Guest blog posts.  I’m hoping this damn blog will be fully updated before I hit Sept!  I have been going for a consistent look, tight writing, and better SEO.  It’s definitely working 😀

05 Plan all blog posts for this month

I am still managing to plan my blog posts for the month, once I feel comfortable that this has become a constant, I’ll move it off my list and add in something new.

06 Update the Tutorial List & Guest post links

Due to all the updates I’ve been making on this blog, I need to go back through the links on my Tutorial Page and make sure they are not broken.  I also need to add all the new articles to it.  I really should have been doing that as and when they went live – but that was WAY too organised for me!  :p  Also, I need to make sure all my guest post lists are added to their page too.

07 Update Guest Post policy

I’ve been featuring guest posts for a while now and I think I need to re-write my policy to make it clearer and more succinct.

08 Reading Challenge 50 (4 books)

I managed to read 4 books in May, pretty good since I had been struggling to find the time over the last few months.  I am hoping to carry this on into June.

09 Research 1 topic

I have a list of projects I am working on and I want to delve into some topics until I completely understand them.  I have dropped this to one to give me time to really get in-depth with it

09 Do (at least) 10 online courses

I am managing to hit 10 courses a month, sometimes more.  So I’ll keep it as is for the time being.  Learning is fun! 😀

10 Plan my newsletter

This is a strange one as I hit some pitfalls last month regarding starting a newsletter.  I am still hitting pitfalls, so while I try and fix them without it costing me too much money, I will plan a few newsletters (just in case) so I’m ready if I actually get over all these damn obstacles!

11 Organise and implement Instagram schedule and branding

While I love just dumping random photos on my Instagram account, I need to get into a schedule and also start to brand it.  After all, I should heed my own advice regarding Branding.

12 Plan a Twitter Challenge

I love Twitter Challenges and I decided to create my own.  So, in July there will be a 31 Day Twitter Challenge.  I really hope you if you are Twitter that you join in 🙂

13 List 10 new items

I’m re-adding my business goal, I have a list of new items to make and am hoping to get one a week done – though that isn’t always the case, so just adding 10 new items to my shop will be a good aim.

Do you have monthly or quarterly ones?  Share your tips for completing goals in the comments below!

Still trying to keep my goals manageable.  Though I may end up adding a few more as the month go by 🙂

2018 Monthly Goals: June

  1. Good luck with all your goals! June is going to be a busy month. There are so many maintenance things I need to do for my blog as well. I’m hoping to get a good chunk done after I get my blog posts for the month written.

    1. Thanks Rach, you too. Do you write all your month’s blog posts early? I would love to do that. The most I manage is getting a week’s worth (which is only 4) sorted and scheduled and even then… not often! lol

      1. I try to. There have been a couple times I was successful, but I tend to get a week or two done in advance. I dedicate an entire day to it though.

    1. Lol I usually either start late and have to catch up (which is what I’m currently doing with #authorconfession) or I miss several days in the middle.

But they are fun so I thought, what the heck! I’m creating one 😀

  2. I’ve been doing quarterly goals and it has really helped me stay more focussed on what I set in January. Some of your goals are so big (10 courses a month) but if you can achieve it all, why not go for it? Good luck 😉

    1. I think quarterly goals are great! I did them when I was working full time and I found having things over 3 months really helped me get things completed.

Now I work for myself at home, I have more flexibility so I enjoy having monthly ones.

The courses one may seem big, but they are video courses and most are around 30 – 45mins long. I usually have them on while I’m making items and stop to jot down notes.

Glad to hear you are able to focus on your goals. Good luck with them 😀

      1. Ally, I will need to email you the link. Can you contact me via my contact page (rather than expose your email on here) and I’ll send it over.

    1. Lol nah! Who needs sleep 😀 I am actually one of those annoying people who can go to bed late, sleep well (at least nowadays) and then wake up early and be ready to go.

I think I’m like that because my partner is 100% the other way. He takes ages to get to sleep and no matter how much he gets, he’s always so tired in the morning. lol

Hmm but maybe I have given myself too many goals. I just want to do all-the-things!! 😀

I am! I have a list of about 10 in my journal to be completed this June. Some are easier than others, which is great for a motivation boost 😉

      2. I love making goals. Lol yes having some easier goals used in definitely helps with motivation. Took me a while to realise that lol

      1. That’s a good way to do it. I try and keep my eye on the long term and plan accordingly – though it doesn’t always work 😀
