May Goals 2018

We’re into a new month, so that means a whole new set of goals.  Because unless I have a scary-amount of things to occupy myself with, I will probably misbehave 😀  My goals are not just writing goals, because I have other projects that need my time as well.

Monthly goals for May 2018. Ari Meghlen's Monthly goals for May

Looking back over April, I didn’t do too bad.  I completed 10 out of 13 goals and I’m happy with that, though I did fail the largest writing goal.  *sigh* oh well, let’s move onto this month’s goals.

01 Write 10,000 words of my current WIP, The Blessed

Now that the 85K challenge is over (and yes, I failed! oh well) I want to continue making headway on my new fantasy novel.

02 Add another 30 scenes to my Master List

Shockingly, I have managed to keep this going.  It has helped me (roughly) figure out the next 7 books of the Dark Hart series!

03 Clear through another 300 documents

I have a folder where I am trying to store all my writing notes and ideas since…the dawn of time, I started writing.  I am hoping to eventually have them organised.  It’s a mammoth of a job, but it will definitely be worth it.

04 Update at least 10 earlier blog posts

I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Most of my older blog posts are now updated and wow have I seen the difference in blog traffic since I started this overhaul.  But I still have all the older guest posts that need updating so, it’s still ongoing.

05 Plan all blog posts for this month

This has actually become a bigger task…due to the fact I (technically) have four blogs and I want to kick two of them into action.  So while this goal is (mainly) about this blog, I have created a new Content Calendar that now includes two other blogs.  (seriously, I have to be crazy busy otherwise I don’t feel productive)

06 Reading Challenge 50 (3 books)

It is shocking that I can’t find time to read 3 books a month!  Well, I am going to try this again.  This becomes even more important because next year I’m going to be doing book reviews.  (yay, even more stuff to do! :p)

07 Research 2 topics

I have a list of projects I am working on and I want to delve into some topics until I completely understand them.  (This is probably going to be intense, hence the reduced number of goals this month)

[ M A R K E T I N G ]

08 Do (at least) 10 online courses

I am loving these courses and most of them are pretty short, so I am happy to keep this on my list.

09 Start my newsletters

I have ummed and ahhed about doing this and to hell with it, I am going to jump in… slowly… so by the end of the month, I (should) have an option for people to join my newsletter.  EEkk this is another one of those pushing-my-comfort-zone moments.

No specific goals for the business right now.  There is a chance we might be moving this month so I don’t want to be making any changes to the biz until I know what’s happening.

So, do you have any goals?  Do you have monthly or quarterly ones?  share your tips for completing goals in the comments below!

Just 9 goals this month, much more manageable (I hope)... that is unless we do move, then all these will go to pot.  But anywho, I like stretching goals that mean I have to really be tight with my schedule and my time.

Happy writing

Ari

  1. I will complete the first draft of my next project by the end of the summer. As for my current book, if it doesn’t get picked up by a publisher or an agent I may have to consider something else. I want to get it out there.

  2. All great and doable goals for the month. I know what you mean about being crazy busy to feel productive. I do the same thing, lol. I run two blogs and am working on a third to publish by the end of the summer. Plus two more blog ideas that may or may not see the light of day, but they’re there… Lol. Good luck!

    • Wow I give you mega props for working on more blogs, you already run two and publish every day! I seriously don’t know how you manage it, it’s awesome!

I would love to have your level of organisation. 🙂

Quick random question – is your blog on WordPress.com or WordPress.org? I am umming and ahhing about moving to .org but I don’t know anyone whose using it to get feedback from.

      • It’s not easy for sure, but it’s fun. The other blog I co-run with my sister so the load is a little lighter at least. 🙂

I use .com. I’ve heard that .org is “better” if you really want to turn your blog into a “professional website” and make money and such. I’ve thought about switching as well, but I do know a couple people who switched and they lost a lot of followers and views. .org doesn’t show up on the WordPress Reader and I personally find them harder to follow. I think the .com Business Plan is similar to the .org site, though you can do more with .org, I think.

I hope that helped, it confuses me as well. I’m planning on switching to the business plan (hopefully soon) and see how that goes. I don’t really want to switch complete websites since my blog is 6-years old. I don’t want to lose what I’ve built.

      • Thanks so much Rachel. I didn’t know that about Reader, I think if I switched I would lose people because a lot of new people find me through the Reader.

Yeah, I was wondering if Business would allow for enough extras that I wouldn’t need to change. At the moment, the cost difference is just a little too high for me to do without being fully aware of the changes.

Thanks for your input, I think I’ll see about getting the most out of the Premium I have and look into business, think .org will be put on the back burner. 😉

      • Yeah, that’s my thoughts exactly. I’ve saving to upgrade to Business but I don’t think I’ll swap to .org anytime soon.

  3. Good luck with all your goals ❤ Moving can't be easy I hope it won't be too big a stress for you. How are you updating your posts? I have a lot of pics that are too big on my old blog posts but lost on how to compress them! By the way I've missed chatting with you like we used to on Facebook. ❤
